Use Cases

Independio was designed following the use of manual assessment check lists. Below, you can see how individuals were able to progress faster using the manual version of Independio’s features. And you can imagine the progress if these users had access to the app. There are still use cases underway, and they will be added to this page upon completion.

The manual Checklist

About the Use Cases

Procedures

Before Independio, the founder, Niki Mayer, developed a manual checklist after working in the field for only 6 months. The idea for the checklist was to get more of an idea of how the person thinks of themselves, how they experience themselves, how they learn, what stressors impede their learning, what protective factors support their learning, and what they do well versus what they still struggle with. Niki named the checklist, the Systemic Skill Building (SSB) Checklist.

To begin, Niki administered the SSB Checklist after 3 months of direct skill building services with an individual. Using the information from the SSB checklist, Niki worked with the individual to create skill building goals and planning for goals to work on later. After an individual completed the SSB checklist at the baseline, Niki repeated the checklist after 3 months and 6 months to see the differences between the baseline and follow ups. In addition, Niki collected data during sessions to confirm progress, and worked with staff and caretakers to provide data from sessions when Niki was not present.

How Results are calculated

Results below were collected in the form of opportunities to work on the skill and successes with the skill within the prompting limits.

For example, if a goal read: “User will participate in social activities at least two times per month within 2 prompts 60% of the time,” then the percentage will be calculated as:

  • Total number of opportunities to complete the goal (O) = 6
  • Total number of successes (S) = 4
  • Total number of prompts allowed (P) = 12
  • Actual number of prompts received (PR) = 14

Equation:

S/O * P/PR = Percent toward mastery (rounded to the second decimal place)

Calculation:

4/6 * 12/14 = 0.57 or 57%

Use Case A

Progress for User A with Manual Checklists Similar to Independio

The following data is for a 31 year old male that will be called A for the purpose of sharing progress.

Social Participation Goal Progress

Prior to using the structured manual checklist above, A was making 43% progress after 8 months of working on a goal for Social Participation (which included 9 opportunities, 5 successes, and 42 prompts). After 3 months of implementing the manual checklists to add structure to A’s goal progress, A reached 69% in 3 months (9 opportunities, 7 successes, and 36 prompts). After 6 months, A reached 86% (9 opportunities, 8 successes, and 33 prompts).

  • P = 32
  • PR = 42

5/9 * 32/42 = 0.43*100 = 43%

Data collected in 3 months after Checklists:

  • O = 9
  • S = 7
  • P = 32
  • PR = 36

7/9 * 32/36 = 0.69*100 = 69%

Data collected in 6 months after Checklists:

  • O = 9
  • S = 8
  • P = 32
  • PR = 33

8/9 * 32/33 = 0.86*100 = 86%

Health & Wellness Goal Progress

Prior to using the structured manual checklist above, A was making 32% progress after 8 months of working on a goal for Health & Wellness (which included 12 opportunities, 6 successes, and 57 prompts).
